DTN COMMENTS:   The country is typically quiet this afternoon with bids and 
asking prices yet to be established, and significant trade volume will likely 
be delayed until the second half of the week. New showlists appear to be mixed, 
lower in Texas and Nebraska/Colorado, but higher in Kansas. 

Today's slaughter totaled 98,000 head, 5,000 less than last week, and 16,000 
below a year ago. Live cattle futures closed sharply higher, up 225 to 292, 
while feeder issues ended the day significantly higher, up 507 to 675. Beef 
cutouts are expected to close higher with light to moderate box movement.
